FENTON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The St. Louis area has been a targeted by a check fraud ring and the secret service is investing.

Investigators said Michelle Stevenson was arrested over the weekend when she was caught cashing a fake U.S. Treasury check for $3900 at a Wal-Mart store in Fenton.

Employees at the store said they were alarmed when Stevenson left the store to hand part of the money to three other accomplices. Investigators said all three were able to get away.

The group is reportedly from the Chicago area. Investigators are still looking for them.
