PAGEDALE, MO (KMOV.com) – Crowds gathered in Pagedale to protest the death of a woman after police said she committed suicide while she was in jail in police custody, but family and community members don’t believe she killed herself.

Police in Pagedale say they found Kimberee Randle King, 21, unconscious on the floor of the jail after they say she committed suicide. Authorities were detaining King on outstanding warrants after she was involved in a disturbance with another woman on Page Avenue near Woodruff.

On Wednesday, the St. Louis County Police Department, who was asked to investigate the incident, said video surveillance showed King hanging herself.

“They said she strangled herself,” said Kandice King, Kimberee’s sister on Tuesday. “There’s no way. There’s no way. There’s no way possible.”

“We need answers. We need how. We need why. They’re just solid answers,” said Rachel West, god-sister to Kimberee. “We’re not asking for much.”
