ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Authorities found a homemade shot gun in the home where an 18-month-old baby was found unresponsive early Tuesday morning in north St. Louis County.
Two investigations are taking place regarding a home in the Castle Point neighborhood--one involving the death of the 18-month-old baby and another regarding a suspicious device later confirmed by the bomb and arson unit to be a homemade shot gun.
Police say the baby was rushed to the hospital after being found unresponsive in the 10000 block of Lorde around 12:45 a.m. Authorities say the baby died at the hospital. At this time, police said no foul play is suspected in the baby's death, but the investigation is still underway.
A neighbor told News 4 the baby’s mother came to her door with the baby girl in her arms saying a dresser fell on her. She said the girl was unresponsive, wearing only a diaper. The neighbor said she called police and they took the baby away immediately.
The medical examiner is working to determine the cause of the death. The baby was not, however, harmed by the homemade gun.
