BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – the Belleville Police Department is investigating after a Swansea man was found dead early Saturday morning.

Marc A. Dontigney, 48, was found lying face down at the intersection of West Main and Second Street around 1:30 a.m. after authorities received a call for a fight in progress.

Police say patrons of Club Escapade were holding a suspect down on the ground when they arrived.

Witnesses told police the suspect shoved Dontingney to the ground, causing him to hit his head.

Dontigney was taken to an area hospital via ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

The St. Clair Coroner’s office conducted an autopsy which indicated Dontigney did not die as a result of an injury to the head. The preliminary results of the autopsy indicated Dontigney had an underlying health issue which is believed to be a factor in his death.

The State’s Attorney’s office has taken the case under advisement pending the autopsy report and toxicology results.
