ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay’s Director of Communication says the mayor met with the Police Chief , the Public Safety Director, and others about the eruption of gun violence in St. Louis.
There have been 16 shootings that have plagued the St. Louis area during the past 72 hours.
Of the sixteen shootings that have happened in the past 72 hours, one of the incidents on Wednesday involved a father and his one-year-old son being shot and on Thursday, a 4-year-old was accidentally shot by their 5-year-old cousin.
“There seems to be no connection between the individual acts of violence,” said St. Louis Police Department Chief Sam Dotson. “Whether it’s a drug transaction or a personal dispute, the violence is not (related). Some people ask if there is a gang war. I don’t see it.”
Dotson says one of the ways to stop violent crimes is to have “outcomes in the courts that keep people safe.” He says they haven’t seen those results yet. A spokesperson with the mayor says he has been on the phone with the White House and other officials for solutions to the gun violence.
Mayor Slay plans to speak on the issue next week.
