ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Students at Riverview Gardens High School are helping to lead the charge in bringing hope and peace back to north St. Louis County Communities with the help of Bernice King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
King and her staff from the King Center in Atlanta, Georgia are training students to peacefully work through conflicts and issues. She is also encouraging students to push for non-violence throughout their neighborhoods.
The Riverview Gardens District includes the area of Ferguson near the Canfield Apartments where Michael Brown was shot and killed in August.
“This gives me good motivation, hope still out there, I have someone to talk to, share my feelings, they show me the way,” said Harry Crawford, a junior at the school whose brother was shot and killed last month.
This is King’s third connection with the students.
The King Center workers will be back at the start of October for more training.
