ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A photo from a women’s restroom at Wednesday night’s Cardinals game has both fans and the Cardinals' front office disgusted.
The photo shows a cotton candy vendor putting snacks down on a dirty bathroom floor while she took a break to use the restroom.
Jessica Back took the photo when she walked into the women’s restroom near section 437 at Busch Stadium during the sixth inning.
“The floors were wet. You could see the toilet paper draped underneath it,” said Back about the cotton candy. “At first you … crack a joke or two and then realize that’s just not sanitary at all. They’re selling that to people and their children. It’s just gross.”
Back’s photo was shown to several Cardinals fans. The general consensus was disgust.
The Cardinals' front office was also disturbed.
“We are appalled by the photograph and it’s not the customer service we have in place,” said a Cardinals spokesperson.
The Cardinals said they are launching an investigation into the matter. They released a statement Thursday saying: "The photograph is very disturbing. Our concessionaire DNC Sportservice is currently investigating this matter to identify the vendor responsible. This behavior is completely inconsistent with our customer service standards and runs contrary to the health and sanitation training all employees undergo. We appreciate this matter being brought to our attention. We want to assure fans we will take all measures necessary to prevent this type of thing from happening again."
Since the statement has been released, DNC Sportsservice has identified the employee and talked with her and her supervisor. According to the investigation, the vendor became sick and rushed to the bathroom. The cotton candy was destroyed when she returned to work and was not sold.
