ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Homicide was called in to investigate after a 1-year-old child and his father were shot in the back late Wednesday night.

According to police, the infant and his 23-year-old father were shot in the 600 block of Emma around 10:00 p.m.

St. Louis Police said the father and his family were getting out of their car and walking into the house when someone opened fire.

“You never know when they are going to start shooting because they came out of a gangway,” said Laverne McNeal, who lives in the neighborhood.

Police say the father used a stolen gun to fire back.

Investigators have been working non stop on this case but Chief Sam Dotson said they keep hitting a brick wall.

“The father has not been cooperative with police. Mom says I don’t know why anyone would be shooting at us,” said Chief Sam Dotson of the St. Louis Police Department.
