(KMOV.com) – A 6500 acre plot of farmland near Winfield may be turned into a 300 acre harbor complex in Lincoln County.

The port would amke use nearby rail lines and access to I-70 via Route 79. There is also plan for a processing plant for Asian Carp that have invaded waterways in the Midwest, the meat would then get shipped out to the global market.

“It would be great for the town. It would bring in so much more business,” said Courtney Stewart who works in Winfield.

While there are concerns about building on a floodplain or what the port would mean to the town’s infrastructure, overall, the response has been positive. A combination of private and federal money is funding the project.

“It will completely change the dynamic of the Winfield, Foley, and Lincoln County area. No question about it,” said nearby business owner Andrew Foley.

One developer said there is nothing up or down the Mississippi River that would compare to the complex that would be built.
