VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -A specialized tricycle used by a Vancouver, Washington boy suffering from spina bifida was taken from his family’s front porch.

It happened late Thursday or early Friday on northeast 85th Avenue in a neighborhood behind the Vancouver mall.

Lance Dickson, 9, has limited mobility and used the tricycle to get around the neighborhood like any other kid. It was also a key piece of his rehab from knee surgery.

“It made me feel like I could do anything,” said Lance, about the tricycle given to him by Shriner’s Hospital in Portland. “It’s really, really important to me.”

His mother, Kiera Dickson, said similar models retail for more than $1,000.

“I’m really disappointed in humanity,” Kiera Dickson said about the theft. “How could you not realize the impact you’re making on a child’s life.”

She said the tricycle was not locked up, but they had stored it in the same place since they took it home from the hospital in March. She also said it is obvious that the tricycle was designed for a child with special needs.

Anyone with information about its whereabouts should contact Vancouver police.
