(KMOV.com) – Police said a MoDOT roadside assistance truck driver was injured after a drunk driver hit his truck on I-44 in Kirkwood.

Police said the wreck happened around 6:30 p.m. on westbound I-44 between Big Bend and Berry Road. Authorities said a MoDOT roadside assistance truck driver pulled to the side of the road to look at a stalled car when a drunk driver hit the back of the MoDOT truck. A witness told News 4 the alleged drunk driver sideswiped him before hitting the MoDOT truck.

Police did not say whether the MoDOT worker was inside the car when it was hit, but said he was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The stalled vehicle was empty.

Three lanes of westbound I-44 were closed for several hours as a result.
