HIGHLAND, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Teachers in the Highland School District were back on the picket line Friday morning while some students held signs nearby.

Students gathered at the square in downtown Highland, Illinois Friday morning to voice their opinions of the strike. Some students carried signs of support which said “support our teachers”, other signs said “I want to be in school."

Teachers in the district went on strike Thursday after rejecting the latest contract proposal from the district.

Both sides in the strike will meet Saturday afternoon to try and reach an agreement.

Approximately 3,000 students and 175 teachers are affected by the strike.
