ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A man was hospitalized after being shot at and crashing his car near downtown St. Louis early Friday morning.

The 25-year-old victim told police he was in his vehicle driving north on Jefferson when at least one unknown occupant of a dark Dodge Charger began firing shots at him. The victim says he ducked down while driving in an attempt to avoid the gunshots, causing him to crash his vehicle through a gate on the parking lot of the St. Louis Fire Department Academy at 2:10 a.m. According to the victim, the Dodge Charger followed him onto the parking lot.

Following the accident, the victim exited his vehicle and went to the back door of the Fire Department building looking for help.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and is still missing.

 

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the lower back and is currently listed in stable condition.
