EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Police are investigating the death of an 18-month-old girl whose relatives said the smell of bleach came from her mouth after she started spitting up.

Police said officers on Christmas Eve responded a home in the 1300 block of N. 38th St. around 9:50 p.m. after someone called 9-1-1 and hung up.

Upon their arrival, the child was found dead.

An autopsy was being performed Thursday to determine her cause of death.

East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Floore said the Illinois Juvenile Death Investigation Team was handling the case.

Floore said a news conference was being held at 1 p.m. Thursday to release additional information.
