( -- Two suspects accused of kidnapping a UPS driver and stealing packages are in custody. They were caught after police say one of robbers shot a Metro East girl he’d feared could turn him over to police.

The girl, 15, says she unknowingly walked into a stash house of stolen goods when she was hanging out with her friend Wednesday.

“She just said she saw a whole bunch of boxes of everything—hair extensions, cell phones.” the victim’s mother said.

The goods were allegedly stolen from a delivery driver, who was forced to drive to Washington Park where police say at least two other people cleaned out 60 to 80 packages from the back of the UPS truck.

“[My daughter] said when they were riding around in the van, a UPS truck was driving by and one of the guys was like, ‘round two,’ and she kind of put it together,” the victim’s mother said.  “She knew they had all these big packages and they had to come from somewhere.”

That knowledge ended up putting the young girl in danger just hours later. Early Thursday morning, the victim was contacted by her friend, and sneaked out to meet up with her. The meet up ended up being a set up

The van that picked the victim up drove to a secluded area along Doris Avenue in Cahokia, and another suspect in the robbery took the girl outside of the vehicle.

“He was like, ‘I heard you was (sic) running around snitching.’  He said, ‘you know what they do to snitches,’ and he took her out the van and threw her down in a ditch and he shot,” the victim’s mother said.

That gunshot hit a 15-year-old in her back. The bullet pierced her lung, but she’s lived to tell about it, and her story has helped police get leads in the case.

“She said she heard the first shot and her ears started ringing and that he shot again and she felt something, so she said she laid still so they would leave,” the victim’s mother said.  “They wanted to kill her. She’s 15 years old.”

Police have the teen’s friend and the suspected shooter in custody. They are also saying the two are ‘persons of interest’ in the shooting and the UPS truck-jacking. Authorities are still looking to arrest two more men connected to the UPS robbery.
