(KMOV) -- A runway at Lambert Airport was reopened Saturday night after emergency crews staged a mock emergency fire drill.

“It’s important to do this because we want to practice and find any mistakes that we may have that we can correct before we actually have a disaster,” said Capt. Mike Dean of the St. Louis Fire Department

The exercise involved a mock plane, loaded with passengers and crew members, catching fire.

During the drill, airport rescue firefighters put out a live fire, simulating a fully engulfed jet.

Airport police, emergency personnel, and many other departments participated in Saturday’s drill.

All airports are required to perform this type of exercise every three years.
