(KMOV) – A St. Louis man has been sentenced to four years in prison for burning a pit bull alive last year.
Wesley Reid, 23, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to one count of felony animal abuse and one count of burning property.
Police say Reid took 3-year-old Zeus from his neighbor’s home near the intersection of Amelia and Bircher because the owner did not pay back a $50 debt.
Authorities say Reid tied Zeus to a fence, doused him with gasoline and lit the dog on fire. Zeus suffered third-degree burns on 75 percent of his head and 30 percent of his body.
The dog was later euthanized.
