(KMOV) – A security bug just revealed is stealing information including passwords.

Two-thirds of web servers use a type of technology that could be affected by this bug.

Yahoo, Google and Amazon said they’re taking steps to secure their sites.

Just this week, a security bug dubbed “The Heart-Bleed Bug” was exposed, getting onto servers and stealing usernames, passwords and credit card numbers.

“It's scary because it's nothing that you as the consumer can do. It’s something that your provider has to deal with and each company has to deal with and when they'll actually get it all taken care of is anybody’s guess,” said Professor Vickie Sauter with UMSL Information Systems Department.

Check with the sites and companies you use for email or anyone you do business with online.

If they’ve employed a “fix” go ahead and change your password.
