(KMOV) –  A mother-daughter duo are facing changes after dozens of cats were left in a Fenton motel room.

Police say Linda Mitchell and her daughter Kristina were staying at the Super 8 Motel located at 650 S. Highway Drive when management noticed a foul smell coming from their room.

Authorities say when they investigated, they found 14 cats in the room in deplorable conditions. The room was reportedly filled with trash and debris. No food or water bowls were located.

St. Louis Coounty Animal Care and Control did a veterinary exam of the cats which showed they were neglected and had some kind of illness.

The duo was arrested on January 13 and charged on April 7.
