ST. LOUIS (AP) -- An archaeological dig beneath the Poplar Street Bridge in St. Louis has uncovered evidence of two 18th- century homes built just a few years after the city’s founding as a fur-trading post.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Missouri Department of Transportation found soil markings from two log homes that date back to 1770 at what is now the intersection of Second and Poplar streets.

The houses were owned by colonial residents Joseph Bouchard and Louis Beaudoin, who was a fur trader.
