CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Authorities in Champaign County have arrested two suspects in the killing of a University of Illinois student from Chicago.
Police arrested Daniel Gonzales and Reginald Scott Monday after both men made various admissions during police questioning in the murder of 20-year-old Vicente Mundo.
Mundo was last seen Jan. 25and his body was found Saturday morning along a rural road.
Police say Mundo's death occurred as part of a pre-planned armed robbery "involving relatively small amounts of marijuana and cash." Police say Gonzales and Scott took Mundo's body to a rural area northwest of Tolono and left the body near a tree line. Police say they have the handgun used in the crime.
Gonzales and Scott are to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
