(CBS News) -- The National Sleep Foundation has released a new study stating just how important rest is for people.
According to the CDC, 50-70 million Americans are currently suffering with some form of a sleeping disorder. The government believes sleep deprivation is now a national epidemic.
The National Sleep Foundation suggests newborns need between 14 and 17 hours of sleep daily and infants require 12 to 15 hours of sleep. Once children reach pre-school age they should have between 10 and 14 hours of rest, while teenagers need between eight and 10 hours of sleep.
Adults are required to get between seven and nine hours of rest daily.
