ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) – The Missouri and Illinois Departments of Transportation prepared for possible freezing roads and snow Sunday evening, citing dropping temperatures as the primary concern.
MoDOT told News 4’s Matt Sczesny they are in a standby situation to prepare for any severe weather or hazardous road conditions. MoDOT has activated 100 crews treating St. Louis and surrounding counties, primarily through the use of brine treatments.
With inches of snow covering the mid to Northern sections of Illinois, IDOT already had crews out in some parts of the Metro East, including Jerry, Pike and Calhoun counties.
Joe Monroe of IDOT told Sczesny they will focus on treating roadways in the urban areas to make sure drivers are able to make it into work Monday. They will concentrate on roads prone to freezing, such as Alton’s Clark Bridge.
