(HockeyStL) - The injury bug has once again bitten the St. Louis Blues as star defender Kevin Shattenkirk left Sunday's game against Washington in the first period and did not return after colliding with Capital forward Alex Ovechkin.
Shattenkirk never returned and head coach Ken Hitchcock said no updates were available after the game.
The 26-year-old leads all NHL defensemen with 32 assists on the season.
Shattenkirk's injury comes just two games after Patrik Berglund and Jor Lehtera suffered upper-body injuries. Hitchcock said all injured players would be evaluated Monday in St. Louis.
The Blues play next on Tuesday at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
