EFFINGHAM, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- An Illinois highway is now reopened after a tanker truck overturned Sunday morning, shutting down the highway for hours. The truck was carrying a chemical used to make shampoo.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, Interstate 57 reopened at 2:00 a.m. Monday morning.
The Illinois State Police reports that Derrick Williams, 33, Baton Rouge, was traveling in a 2013 Peterbuilt. As he changed lanes from right to left he lost control of the truck. The tanker unattached from the tractor and the trailer overturned to its side. The tank slid to the center medium and the tractor lost control, spinning into the right ditch.
The truck came to rest upright in the ditch, while the tanker came to rest on its side in the median.
All lanes southbound and northbound were closed while the crash scene was cleared and the material was offloaded.
