MARISSA, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- After two new suspicious fires Friday night, the Illinois State Fire Marshall is investigating a series of intentional fires in the Metro East.

Fire crews responded to separate fires at The Academy Building and a large storage shed in Marissa.

Just before midnight, fire crews arrived on the scene of a fire at The Academy Building, a local history museum on Main Street. Most of the building was destroyed in the fire.

A few blocks away, another suspicious fire was discovered at a large storage shed.

These two incidents are the latest in a series of at least six suspected arsons in the village within the past two weeks. Firefighters said both blazes may be connected to three other suspicious fires.

The investigation is ongoing.
