EATONTON, GA (CBS46) - Investigators said they will re-interview anyone who had close contact with a Putnam County elderly couple brutally murdered in May of 2014.

“If I knew who took the head, sir, I probably would know who did it,” said Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills.

Russell and Shirley Dermond were murdered in their gated community of Great Waters Community at Reynolds Plantation.

“The last six months, I’ll be very candid with you, haven’t been very productive at all,” said Sheriff Sills.

Mr. Dermond was decapitated inside his garage and his head was never found.

“We do know that was post-mortem. It was after he was already dead,” said Sheriff Sills.

“Based on the incision, it appears to me and both the pathologists that it was a knife,” he adds, referring to the method in which Mr. Dermond was decapitated.

The sheriff said Mrs. Dermond was beaten to death. Her body was found days after the murders five miles from their home in the lake behind their home.

“The first blow could have killed her. It may have been the second blow,” he adds.

The Dermonds have two sons and a daughter and a son who died during a drug transaction years ago. The deceased son has a daughter.

Sheriff Sills said they will also re-interview anyone who worked for the Dermonds.

“We’re trying to find somebody who would have some knowledge of a person or persons who would have some animosity towards them,” said Sheriff Sills.

The Dermonds’ home which was once valued more than $1 million is now listed for sale for $769,000.

The reward for information leading to a conviction is now up to $60,000.00.

If you have information which may help, you are asked to call the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department at 706-485-8557.
