EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A Southern Illinois University Edwardsville psychology professor is on administrative leave after police said she was drunk when she hit a parked car on campus.

“I’m just speechless,” said Justin Riddle, a student at the school. “I can’t believe that a professor would really do that.”

Police were called to the scene of the accident around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday when Dr. Cynthia Nordstrom, who has been a professor at SIUE for 14 years, hit a co-worker's parked car. Nordstrom was set to teach later that day, but wasn't allowed to after she failed a field sobriety test.

Nordstrom was arrested for driving under the influence and driving without insurance.

University officials declined to comment on the incident, but do say the professor is on paid administrative leave and is set to go to court in the next week.
