ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV.com)- Police are attempting to determine who is responsible for a series of fires intentionally set to tool sheds and outbuildings in the small town of Marissa, Ill.
According to the Marissa Chief of Police, Tom Prather, three fires were started in outbuildings along alleyways near South Main Street.
Residents in Marissa are calling for their neighbors to discourage the arsonist from returning by turning their outside lights on.
Prather says he doesn't think people in the area should feel unsafe. The police chief said starting fires in unoccupied buildings and setting houses on fire are two different crimes and said the progression seems like a pretty big jump.
Prather said the two of the three fires were minor and that someone without knowledge of what to look for might not even notice the damage.
