(KMOV.com) – Drivers across the country have been told to have their recalled Takata airbags replaced, but the fix could take a while.

The air bags, made by Takata Corp., can inflate with too much force and spew metal shrapnel into the passenger compartment. At least five people have been killed by the faulty air bag inflators.

A Takata spokesperson says the company is doing everything it can to replace all the recalled airbags as quickly as possible, but even with production ramping up, it’s estimated it could take “two years” to make enough parts to fix all 8 million affected cars.
