POPLAR BLUFF, Mo (KMOV.com) – Police say they have arrested a man in Poplar Bluff after he held his girlfriend against her will and, according to her, threatened to kill her if she went to the police for help.

According to authorities, the girlfriend of Jewayne Shaw was able to escape her boyfriend while he slept and alerted police on Saturday around noon.

An officer responded to Shaw’s home, but Shaw was home when police arrived. However, as police secured the scene, Shaw returned, saw the officer’s squad car, and fled the scene with a passenger inside the vehicle with him. The officer then began pursuing Shaw down various side streets.

As Shaw reached the West Vine Street and South Westwood Boulevard intersection, he crashed into two other vehicles before hitting a concrete retaining wall. EMS was called to the scene and transported Shaw and his passenger to a local hospital for treatment. No other serious injuries were reported.

Shaw has been charged with felony restraint, assault, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, and numerous traffic offenses.
