(KMOV.com) – Saturday will mark the start of East St. Louis’ 40 Days of Non-Violence campaign.
City leaders are hoping to reduce violence through education and job creation. The program targets all age groups, letting them know how they can help and what programs are available to help them.
“We have youth programming every Saturday. We have numbers that are 460 youths participating at the Jackie Joyner Kersee Center, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. That takes place for the next six Saturdays, and we have programming for adults and senior citizens,” said Joe Lewis, Jr. with 40 Days of Non-Violence.
Louis said community involvement is the key to a safe city and that’s why this program targets citizens of all ages.
