HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A man is in custody and charged with shoplifting and endangering the welfare of a child after he brought his 7-year-old child and an accomplice to allegedly shoplift at a Hazelwood Cabela's.
According to Hazelwood Police Chief Greg Hall, the man was approached by a security officer with an arm full of clothes he was trying to steal. He threw the items at the security guard and ran out the door. He got in a vehicle with the child and his accomplice and drove away.
A police officer spotted the car at Lindbergh and I-270 and made a stop. The driver, who was also the shoplifter, got out of the car and started walking to the police car. At the same time, the accomplice slid into the driver seat and drove away to the child's grandparents house and dropped the child off unharmed.
Police say they know who the accomplice is and there are warrants out for his arrest.
