CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) -- A southeast Missouri man will be sentenced in March for the shooting deaths of two people after an argument.
A Cape Girardeau County jury on Thursday convicted Kenneth Bell of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action in the February 2013 shooting deaths of Misty Cole and Shannon James.
The Southeast Missourian reported that Bell's attorney argued during that trial that he shot the couple after he argued with James outside Bell's apartment. He alleged James threatened him and he thought James was going to get a gun.
Testimony indicated Bell began shooting as soon as Cole opened the door to the couple's apartment.
Investigators testified no weapons were found near James, or in or near his apartment.
