(FootballStL) -- The Rams got an early scare when right tackle Rodger Saffold went down on the first drive with a shoulder injury.
However, the team received good news after the X-Rays came out negative. Saffold watched the rest of the game with his left shoulder in a sling.
Wide receiver Chris Givens caught a 59 yard bomb in the 2nd quarter from Sam Bradford. Last season,Givens had 5 straight games, with at least one catch of 50 yards or more.
“It feels real good, “ said Givens. “Me and Sam decided to try to send a message. This is the effort you’re going to get every Sunday."
Daryl Richardson had the edge in the running backs battle. The 2nd year man had four carries for 24 yards. Isaiah Pead, who fumbled on his first carry in the 1st quarter, finished with 18 yards rushing.
2nd year wideout Brian Quick made an impressive leaping 16 yard catch. Quick had two catches for 27 yards.
Kicker Greg Zuerlein looked strong, after coming off a big rookie season. Zuerlein drilled 2 field goals against the Browns of 54 and 55 yards. Last season, Zuerlein converted his first 15 field goal attempts.
Linebacker James Laurinaitis on his defense.
“The first drive, I like the fact that we kept them just to 3 downs. That second drive, we need to find a way to get off the field. But its all stuff correctable and we can learn from it.”
