(KMOV) – A woman on an all-terrain vehicle was airlifted to the hospital after being struck by a train near Granite City Tuesday night.
Police said the woman and a man were riding an ATV on some railroad tracks near Lenox and Chouteau in Mitchell, Ill. around 9 p.m. when the vehicle got stuck.
Authorities said as they were working to break free a loaded coal train started approaching and the man jumped off the ATV. The woman was not able to get off in time and the train struck the vehicle.
Authorities say the woman was airlifted from the scene in critical condition.
