GALVESTON, Texas – A man who was driving a golf cart while intoxicated ran over another man who was lounging in a chair on the beach late Sunday, according to the Galveston Police Department.
Stanley Allen, 49, was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Police said Allen was driving his cart, which had no working headlights, in the 2300 block of Seawall Boulevard around 11:05 p.m. when he struck a man who was sitting by the water’s edge.
Allen told police that he was heading home and his headlights had gone out, so he did not see the man in the chair. The victim was taken to the hospital to be checked out. His injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.
Officers suspected that Allen was drunk and transported him to UTMB for a mandatory blood draw. After their suspicions were confirmed, they moved forward with the charges.
Allen’s bond was set at $5,000.
