(KMOV) – The St. Louis Convention and Visitor’s Commission has released a new video to debunk perceptions about the city’s high crime rates.

The video, “The Truth About Crime in St. Louis,” was posted to YouTube on Monday and aims to call out what the agency says is misleading crime rankings about the city.

According to St. Louis police, crime in the city continues to drop and has decreased by 46 percent since 2006.

The video says St. Louis consistently ranks in annual “Most Dangerous Cities” lists because, among other things, crime reporting is not consistent across all cities.

“In 2013, the City of Chicago, Las Vegas, Honolulu and a number of other cities weren’t included in the rankings because their crime reporting didn’t meet stated FBI criteria,” the CVC says on its website.

Besides the CVC, the video was put together by the St. Louis Civic Pride Foundation, the St. Louis Regional Chamber and the Partnership for Downtown St. Louis.
