(KMOV.com)—Bethalto Police are investigating a single-vehicle accident that left four teenage Roxana Community School students in the hospital and one dead.
Reports indicate that police received a call of a crash in the 5000 block of Buchta Road just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Collinsville Crash Scene Investigators determined that a vehicle, carrying one male and four female passnegers, left the roadway at a high speed, struck a tree in front of a home, and ejected some of the passengers.
Police did not say how many of the five passengers were ejected from the vehicle.
One of the passengers was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison County Coroner’s Office. The remaining four passengers were transported to hospitals.
In an email obtained by News 4, Roxana Community School notified parents of the accident early this morning. The email, also, stated that counselors would be on hand today and tomorrow from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the school Commons to assist students and staff with grieving.
Police have not released the names or conditions of the surviving passengers.
