(KMOV.com) – Metropolitan Sewer District crews worked hard Sunday morning in south St. Louis County to clean up a huge sewage mess.
MSD says that they received a call on Saturday about a strong odor near Jefferson Barracks and St. Bernadette Church.
When crews got to the area, they found an eight inch sewer blocked by tree roots. As the crew worked to unclog the pipe, a hundred gallons of sewage spilled out onto a soccer field.
Even though the sewage covers a 20 by 50 foot area, officials say that there is no threat to public health or safety.
The scene was cleaned up by noon on Sunday.
