( -- Work was completed Friday on the diamond interchange at I-70 and Mid Rivers Mall Drive.

MoDOT said the $12.4 million project was funded through a combination of federal, state, county and city money. MoDOT said sharing costs is the wave of the future when it comes to projects like the one at Mid Rivers Mall Drive.

“A project like this isn’t going to happen through our funds alone,” said MoDOT official Tom Evers, “We need assistance in some way, shape or form.”

MoDOT said it’s doesn’t have the money for new road projects across the state and needs the monetary assistance to complete any potential project.

MoDOT released a 20-year long transportation plan after a state-wide tour to find out what Missourians want.

Over 12,000 suggestions were given to MoDOT that added up to $70 billion on a $17 billion budget.

“When you got $70 billion of what people want and only $17 billion to build that something’s gotta change,” said Greg Horn with MoDOT.

Officials with MoDOT said it has already cut all the fat from its budget and reduced staff by 1200 people.

Horn said if things continue at this pace, by the year 2019 MoDOT will be doing nothing but maintenance work on roadways.
