(KMOV) – Noise complaints have been on the rise at Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield Valley.

Airport officials say so far this year they have received 19 noise complaints. Of those, eight of them have come in the last two months.

Nancy Bailey has lived in Chesterfield for 10 years. But last month, she had enough with the noise coming from the airport and filed a complaint.

“I just told them that the time of day that they take off is unreasonable, it would be nice if they would wait until 7 a.m. to take off and land before 10 p.m.

She’s not the only one thinking more noise is coming from the airport.

“It’s consistent planes, definitely bigger planes, we were out here last week and my wife goes ‘wow that is a big plane landing,”” said Sean Conroy, owner of ITap in the Chesterfield Valley.

But John Bales, director of aviation at Spirit of St. Louis Airport, can’t explain the uptick in complaints.

“Our traffic hasn’t increased,” he said. “I’ve looked at the monthly numbers. I really don’t know how to explain that.”

Bales says flight numbers have actually decreased this year compared to years past. He says last year 115,000 flights took off or landed. This year, 105,000 flights are projected to come through the airport.

Bales says the size of plane hasn’t changed either. He says on average per night, two to three planes fly in or out of the airport between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Those wanting to complain about the noise can call the airport at 314 488 6492.
