(KMOV) – Construction problems caused long delays of westbound traffic from East St. Louis to Collinsville on Tuesday morning, and drivers hope there is no repeat performance on Wednesday.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says that support beams for a new overpass at Exchange Avenue took longer than expected to install.
IDOT also admits it should have let drivers know about the delays.
“We will do a better job of making sure our own message boards in advance are alerting that there is a possibility of delays coming up,” says Jeff Church of IDOT.
IDOT says it did fine the Springfield-based contractor $5,000 for tying up traffic after 6 a.m.
