(KMOV) -- A man is in custody after a standoff with police and a Tactical Response Team in Belleville, Illinois.

Around 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, police received a call for a domestic battery situation at a home in the 300 block of North 7th Street.

When officers arrived, they found that a woman and her children had fled the home and the suspect, who police believe had a weapon, barricaded himself inside.

William D. Payne, 28, has been charged with Unlawful Use of Weapons and two counts of Domestic Battery.  His bail has been set at $300,000.00.

Belleville police say the standoff ended after a few hours. Payne came out of the residence peacefully.  He was taken into custody and no one was injured.
