(KMOV)-- KMOV.com's Brian Feldman is in Jupiter, Florida covering the Cardinals and is posting
regular updates from spring training.

Mar. 23, 2011 1:52 p.m. --Eduardo Sanchez now getting drilled. Geez. Do they have a mercy rule
here? Like in little league? Enough already.

Mar. 23, 2011 1:49 p.m. --Somehow, Garcia's ERA goes down from 8.31 to 7.94 after this outing. That's what I don't like about the earned run statistic.

Mar. 23, 2011 1:47 p.m. --Not priority Eduardo Sanchez is now pitching. Garcia done after 4. Hasn't surpassed 4 inning this entire spring. Yikes.

Mar. 23, 2011 1:43 p.m. --After the dust settles...only ONE of the 8 runs scored off Garcia in that inning were earned due to Skip's error. That is what can make ERA's a little deceiving. Stuff like that. Yes, Skip made an error but you're telling me Garcia is not responsible for more than one??

Mar. 23, 2011 1:37 p.m. --Wonder if Garcia will blame THIS on bad luck.......

Mar. 23, 2011 1:36 p.m. --This is getting out of hand. Garcia is getting hammered. He may not make it out of the 4th. I'm speechless. No clue what is going on with him. Can't wait to hear this explanation.

Mar. 23, 2011 1:25 p.m. --Well. That was fun watching Jaime pitch well while it lasted. 5 runs (and counting) in the 4th and he's given up 7 total. I'm mystified.

Mar. 23, 2011 1:18 p.m. --Error by Skip on routine play. That stuff has GOT to end this year. Seriously. It's season #3 at 2nd base. C'mon. Enough is enough.

Mar. 23, 2011 1:18 p.m. --Berkman almost comes up with a diving catch. Actually looked good
doing it. Can't expect him to make those plays.

Mar. 23, 2011 1:11 p.m.
-- Fan who caught a foul ball here is wearing a Yankees jersey. So fans here in Mets land start chanting "Yankees suck! Yankees suck!"

Mar. 23, 2011 1:10 p.m. -- Cardinals stringing something together here in the 4th. Molina/Schumaker with back-to-back doubles. Getting runs of lefties is CRUCIAL this season.

Mar. 23, 2011 1:04 p.m. -- Berkman blasts a ball to left for a double. Gets by Jason Bay after an awkward diving attempt. Bay hasn't exactly looked all that smooth out there today...

Mar. 23, 2011 1:03 p.m. --Garcia gets Jason Bay to hit into inning ending 6-4-3 DP. That is clutch pitching.

Mar. 23, 2011 12:57 p.m. -- Theriot can't make a spectacular bare-handed play at short. That's the
kind of stuff Brendan Ryan could do that he'll never be able to.

Mar. 23, 2011 12:56 p.m. -- Jose Reyes is fassssst. I swear, after hitting a fly ball to center, he made it halfway to SECOND before Rasmus caught it. That's wheels.

Mar. 23, 2011 12:53 p.m. -- Holliday has hit the ball on the nose twice today...to the exact same spot...and has nothing to show for it. That defines how numbers can be misleading (cough cough Ryan Theriot cough cough).

Mar. 23, 2011 12:51 p.m.
-- Pujols crushes a double off Capuano. Before that I was thinking how he had just breezed through the Cards lineup after the first few hitters of the game. Trends like that seem to end when Albert comes to the plate.

Mar. 23, 2011 12:45 p.m. -- Excellent inning for Garcia in the 2nd. 1-2-3 and needed just 11
pitches, 10 of which were strikes.

Mar. 23, 2011 12:43 p.m. -- Seen Ryan Theriot make a few smooth plays at shortstop today. Ya know...his range may not be the greatest (and it's definitely not a fraction of what Brendan Ryan's was) but he fields it cleanly and makes a strong (enough) accurate throw.

Mar. 23, 2011 12:34 p.m. -- Garcia, after working hard with John Gast, gets called for a balk. Gast has the best pickoff move in the system but doesn't get called for balks. Clearly Garcia still has much to learn.

Mar. 23, 2011 12:33 p.m. -- With those 2 earned runs charged to Garcia through another inning...that gives him a nice round ERA of 9.00 for spring. 14 earned runs in 14 innings. Wonderful.

Mar. 23, 2011 12:30 p.m. -- And then the hit-fest vs Garcia resumes. David Wright with a BOMB to center off Garcia. What is wrong with him? Ugh.

Mar. 23, 2011 12:19 p.m. -- Bad base running by Rasmus on Holliday's line drive. Thought this stuff was fixed?

Mar. 23, 2011 12:16 p.m. -- A run after 2 hits and a sac fly off a soft tossing lefty? What? Who are these guys and what have they done with the Cardinals?!?

Mar. 23, 2011 12:14 p.m. -- This first AB by Theriot is exactly what he was talking to me about yesterday. Forget the fact he got a single. He took an excellent at-bat, made the pitcher work and had a good approach. That is what he wants right now. The numbers will come when balls fall like they just did.

Mar. 23, 2011 12:11 p.m. -- Let's see what the Cards do vs Chris Capuano today...a guy they may have had some trouble with the last few years in Milwaukee. Those soft-tossing lefties...

Mar. 23, 2011 11:08 a.m. -- I just noticed in looking at the game logs that Fernando Salas has not allowed a single run to score this entire spring. 8 appearances...totaling 9.1 innings...ONE hit allowed. That is incredible.

Mar. 23, 2011 11:05 a.m. -- This is Jaime's 3rd start against the Mets too. In talking to Greg Amsinger of the MLB Network he says the national view of Garcia is that he will NOT be able to keep this up. Amsinger himself doesn't believe that but colleagues at the network do.

Mar. 23, 2011 11:03 a.m. -- Checking out the stats, Jaime Garcia is 1-2 with a 8.31 ERA this spring...including an outing here in Port St. Lucie where he went just
4 innings and gave up 8 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits. Though Garcia claims he was happy with it based on his stuff.

Mar. 23, 2011 10:36 a.m. -- Also says how since the Cards are facing a lot of lefties now...its a great chance to get Berkman at-bats vs them.

Mar. 23, 2011 10:35 a.m. -- From Tony's pregame chat...Eduardo Sanchez is not a priority to pitch at this point. Looking more and more like he is not a candidate to make the team.

Mar. 23, 2011 7:57 a.m. -- All relievers and position players listed as available...just as Tony promised.

Mar. 23, 2011 7:52 a.m. -- Lineup vs Mets: Theriot 6...Rasmus 8...Pujols 3...Holliday 7...Freese 5...Berkman 9...Molina 2...Schumaker 4...Garcia 1.
