Governor Nixon awards grants to construct more trails in St. Louis parks

(KMOV) – Missouri Governor Jay Nixon announced more than $550,000 in grants to help construct bicycle and pedestrian trails throughout the St. Louis area.

Governor Nixon visited Forest Park on Wednesday and detailed a grant that will help construct a multi-use trail that will extend from Steinberg Ice Rink to the Zoo to help boost tourism.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trails Program is awarding $2.3 million to construct 32 trail projects across the state.

The $100,000 grant to Forest Park Forever will help complete construction of a dual trail system.

Other grants have been awarded to the Riparian Corridor Trail in Chesterfield, Shaw Recreational Park in Clayton, Meramec Greenway Trailhead and Trail Connection in Fenton, and Sunset Hills Meramec Greenway in Sunset Hills.
