Police release sketch of suspect accused of attacking woman on bike trail

(KMOV) -- Police are investigating an alleged attempted sexual assault against a female runner on a Belleville, Illinois bike trail.

It happened just before 5:45 p.m. Sunday evening on a trail west of Greenmount Road.

The victim said she was approached from behind by a suspect while she was running.

 

The man reportedly pulled the victim’s pants down and attempted to knock her to the ground. She struggled with the attacker and was able to get away. Bicyclists who were in the area heard the victim’s screams and came to her aid.  The suspect fled westbound.

The woman was not hurt. The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20's, 5'10", 180 lbs, wearing dark pants and a dark coat. A sketch was released of the suspect.
