LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A man has been accused of getting into a fight with a Lincoln County detective and attempting to steal his gun.
Authorities said the fight occurred at the Pine Tree Manor Trailer Park Friday. According to police, the detective was interviewing witnesses for an investigation inside a trailer when George Harris, who was not connected to the investigation, confronted him. Harris allegedly insisted the detective, who was wearing street clothes, was not an officer. The detective then asked Harris to stay back in a bedroom.
“Then he came out of the bedroom very quickly, very deliberately, abruptly for no particular reason at all and attacked the detective in the room,” said Lt. Andy Binder with the Lincoln Sheriff’s Office.
A witness who did not want to be identified, said Harris attacked the detective and the two fought for several minutes. She also said she called 911 using the detective’s phone which had fallen out of his pocket.
“Had him on the floor, there was blood on the floor, the officer was fighting for his life. I grabbed his cell phone and called 911 for back up. I was afraid he was going to get a gun and shoot us all,” the witness said.
The witness said the detective had to show his badge to Harris. She said Harris had been drinking and described him as extremely drunk. Harris suffered a broken nose in the fight. Police said the detective may have suffered a concussion.
Harris was later arrested and is currently in the Lincoln County Jail.
