MOSCOW MILLS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A Moscow Mills man was taken in custody Friday for assaulting a law enforcement officer.
George Michael Harris, 45, is accused of assaulting a deputy who arrived at a home in the 300 block of Pine Tree Manor to obtain a written witness statement from an incident that occurred earlier in the day.
Police say Harris walked out of a back bedroom and berated the detective for several minutes. Harris was convinced the detective was not a law enforcement officer and rushed the detective from the back bedroom, attacking him violently. Harris struck the detective in the face with his knee and attempted to get the detectives weapon, police say.
According to police, Harris told the detective “I am going to kill you.”
For 10 minutes the detective fought for his life until backup arrived.
An on scene witness called the assault into 911.
The detective now suffers from headaches because he was struck in the head, but he did not sustain significant injuries, according to police.
Harris is charged with felony first degree assault on a law enforcement officer and is currently being held at the Lincoln County Jail on a $100,000 cash only bond.
