GLEN CARBON, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Three people are in custody after a police chase through Madison County early Friday morning, police say.

According to the Granite City Police Department, a car was driving suspiciously in the 2700 block of Lincoln with its headlights off around 2:00 a.m.  Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but it would not pull over, which is when the chase began.

Granite City police say when the vehicle got to the city limits, the officer stopped the pursuit and radioed in the information. The Maryville Police Department picked up the pursuit and followed the car into Glen Carbon, where Glen Carbon police became involved.

"I heard a bunch of sirens and saw the white car fly into the wood," said Jimmie Mayfield, a resident near the the chase scene. Mayfield says he watched from his living room as the suspects ran from the scene around 2:30 a.m. after their vehicle was stopped by police stop sticks at the end of a cul-de-sac. "I didn't know if the guys would run back and try to break in so I debated waking people up," Mayfield said.

The car drove off into the woods around Cougar Lane and the suspects inside the car jumped out and took off on foot.

Glen Carbon police, with the help of an East Alton K-9, searched the area for the three suspects, but were unsuccessful locating them until a resident called authorities saying three men were knocking on their doors asking for a phone saying the police were searching for them.

Glen Carbon Police Chief Todd Link says a patrol car was bumped during the pursuit by the juvenile driver, but no injuries were reported. Glen Carbon Police say they will work in conjunction with Granite City to determine what charges will be filed.
